Laceby guidebook

Laceby is a pleasant little village with good road links for commuters…

Laceby offers the best of two worlds, retaining its traditional character and community spirit while being within fast and easy reach of big town facilities.

Tucked away just off the main A46 road which connects Grimsby with Caistor and Humberside Airport, Laceby has the characteristics of a village yet provides modern living in a pleasant environment.

Laceby Village has a good mix of properties at reasonable prices considering it’s a village location. It is home to around 2,880 people, with typical residents being middle income, older couples.

There is a selection of local shops as well as a Morrison’s supermarket which is about a mile up the road, and a number of thriving community groups and organisations.

The local pub, The Nag's Head, also provides a good social life. This was once one of two pubs which stood side by side – the other was the Waterloo –and were said to be the closest drinking places in Britain at one point.

Laceby is home to the Manor Golf Club which enjoys a superb rural setting with views of the Lincolnshire Wolds and beyond, and just outside the village is the Oaklands Hotel which is open to non-residents for food and drink.

Buses run to the village hourly each weekday from Grimsby and Lincoln.

Laceby Acres

Don’t confuse Laceby Village with Laceby Acres private housing estate which is a separate community altogether and lies within the Grimsby boundary.

Laceby Acres was built in the Seventies and Eighties and has the usual mix of modern three- and four-bed semis, detached and bungalows, and it tends to attract younger families than Laceby Village.

There is also a selection of three- and four-bedroom detached homes at the Laceby Park development by the Shepherd Group.

Sub Areas

Aylesby:

Peaceful Aylesby had just 132 residents at the time of the last census.  It's ideal if you want rural calm - and if you're lucky enough to find a house that’s on the market.

Irby Upon Humber:

Another tiny village that’s a great rural retreat providing you can find a property for sale.

Don’t expect much in the way of facilities - shops, pubs and the like – because there aren’t any. Population in 2001 was only 12, among them the Bishop of Grimsby.
