Word On The Street: Hull

One of the world's longest bridges, the biggest submarine, over 700 years of history all free to see in the free museums.

I wont continue so you can find the rest out for yourself, although you might need the 'ull language book coz if you wanna find Whitefri'gate an Ezzle road, a map wont help you! Only kidding just ask us we wont bite you!

... I have only visited Hull a few times, (visiting the sister in law) but I can honestly say that I have never come across such friendly people. I am really looking forward to the move and will keep you peeps informed through this site as to how it goes.

... It's actually 2 cities in one. You have 'ull, which is the part with all the estates and the fish docks; then you have the university town of Kingston-upon-Hull, bounded by Spring Bank, Beverley Road and Inglemire Avenue.

Two minutes walk from our Victorian terrace there are delis, an organic food shop, cafes, bars with live jazz/acoustic sets on Sundays, a chocolatier, aromatherapy shop, florists, etc. And all for less than 150k!

The rail link to London now take less than 3 hours direct and you have Humberside and Leeds Bradford airports, both within easy driving distance.

... Where else could you wake up on a Saturday morning, walk across the Victorian park to Kids Club (for dads), then take your young son swimming to the sound of the beach boys, and on the way back grab a strong Turkish coffee and papers; all within 5 minutes of your front door!

And when you need a change, catch a flight to Barcelona or Paris from one of the local airports, it's like taking the bus - and how can you afford to do this? With living costs one of the lowest in the UK that's more spare cash to enjoy life.

... All the negativity that surrounds it is difficult to avoid but, as many posters have said, the people who say "oh no, not Hull" have very rarely visited.

I'm looking forward to it, and it seems like a place with a heart and an identity. The future looks good for Hull.

Word On The Street: Hull

I think Hull is a thriving city with so much to offer. With the new St Stephens Square being built we can expect Hull to be one of the top ten cities.

Word On The Street: Hull

It's a great city in a wonderful position surrounded by some of the prettiest villages and countryside in the country. Forget the knockers, they just don't get it.

Word On The Street: Hull

OK, so it doesn't offer as large a range of shops, theatres and restaurants etc as some other cities, but with all the development work going on, it will do before long.

The most important thing about Hull is the people; everyone is so friendly and welcoming, service in shops is spot on and everything is conveniently located. I had to move to London for a work just over a year ago and I miss Hull like crazy!!

Word On The Street: Hull

Shops are good as are the resturants and night life (even though I'm 54) but most important are the lovely people and how they have accepted me. The people of Hull are so friendly and welcoming.

Word On The Street: Hull

There are some great shops, some gorgeous restaurants, a quickly emerging football team and the nightlife is absolutely quality.

Word on the Street: Hull

Whenever people ask me where I'm from, I proudly tell them. I am however constantly frustrated when I receive a negative reaction on what they think of Hull, and needless to say, most of them have never actually been.

I love Hull, and everything about it. The people are so genuine and friendly, the night life is great, and like its football team, the city is constantly getting improving!

There are many days when I'm standing up on a packed tube, and paying far too much to live in a flat which I know would be a heck of a lot cheaper in Hull, and wonder why I actually moved out!

Hull is a wonderful place, and I plan to move back there in the future, I can't imagine my kids saying "Mum" in any other accent than my own!

Word on the Street: Hull

...and in that time have seen it become a thriving city full of very friendly people. The Humber Bridge, The Deep, museums which are free, shopping on water and the marina are just a few of the attractions.

Come here now because in a few years property vaues will soar. Hull is the place to be now, this city has come of age. I am very proud to be living here.

Word on the Street: Hull

...Hull is the only one where I've actually felt both welcome and unthreatened. The city is a jewel, subtle and delightfully unpretentious. The standard of living is excellent and there is a culture of tolerance and acceptance which lends the city to eccentrics such as myself!

Word on the Street: Hull

I always come back to Hull! It has so much to offer: affordable housing (although this is changing rapidly - get in quick), a great social scene with appeal to everyone, excellent places to visit, more and more shops/pubs/clubs opening all the time... The best of all being the people of Hull: funny, unpretentious, down to earth...and not forgetting the accent of course. Hull is a truly unique city...come and visit, you'll never leave!

Worst city?! I don't think so! Worst council? Well yes...but don't let that be a reflection of Hull or the people who reside here. I've never liked politicians anyway! :)

Word on the Street: Hull

I am currently working abroad on a work permit but love going back to my hometown. I can see the massive changes over the years. The Deep is so cool it is a must-see and the nightlife and art scene is great. For me, it is the centre of the universe!

Word on the Street: Hull

It has far more to offer than the Midlands! Shopping is great, quiet beaches, loads of places to visit and standard of jobs much better too!

Word on the Street: Hull

The people here are among the friendliest we have ever come across and the city is amazing!
And having just read that Hull was voted one of the worst places in England to live...we have just one thing to say...RUBBISH!

Word on the Street: Hull

I have lived in the city for 10 years and it has improved so much in this time. It is an up and coming city. There is The Deep which has been praised in the national press for its architecture as well as being one of the best new attractions in England. There are loads of museums as well as loads of shops, your usual high street stores and little one-off type of shops.

The night life in the city is brilliant, there is something for everyone. The local music scene is fantastic, loads of local bands with a lot of talent. You mark my word this city will be well and truly on the map in the next 10 years or so. I admit Hull has its bad points but hasn't every city?

It is so out of the way it sometimes feels like you are living in an enormous village and that is part of its charm! I would recommend anyone to live here and I know many people like myself who have to come to live in the city and have grown to think of it as home. I wouldn't leave for anything!

Word on the Street: Hull

...which is more than I can say for other cities I have lived in. The traffic is comparatively good for a city of its size.

Forget the stereo typical 'fishing port' which we left behind some 10 years ago when people realised that the city needed a new direction.

Just visit Hull with an open mind and I guarantee you will not be disappointed.

Word on the Street: Hull

Gets a lot of uncalled-for slander of the press. Great places to visit and only 60 miles away from Leeds. What more can you ask for? If your thinking of moving here, go for it!

Word on the Street: Kingston upon Hull

...and we have an excellent standard of living, fantastic local amenities and shopping, beautiful places to visit within a stone's throw of where we live, ie. Humber Bridge Country Park, Beverley and York, brilliant museums in Hull. I could go on and on!
