Millfields, Stourport On Severn, Worcestershire
A great location...
Stourport on Severn, as its name indicates, is located on the banks of the great river. A location that also attracted the great canal builders of the Victorian era, so there is an incredible amount of water-related activities in and around the town.
Where it was once a major centre for commerce - and there are still a few narrow boats carrying goods - Stourport is now a major inland port for pleasure craft. The river features a vast expanse of meadowland, which is ideal for walks and finding the perfect fishing spot.
The town features some outstanding examples of Georgian architecture, both commercial and domestic, that were built in its heyday.
With plenty to see and do...
For all its history, though, Stourport remains a vibrant town, with everything from boating to athletics to fill your leisure time. Within an easy drive, there are also all the attractions that Worcester and Kidderminster have to offer.
Worcester, with its choice of town centre shops ranging from well-known High Street names to smaller businesses, and an amazing choice of restaurants offering everything from traditional English to the more exotic; from a leisurely dining experience in classy surroundings, to a fast-food snack - all dominated by the imposing Cathedral.
Nearer to Stourport, Kidderminster was once - and still is - the centre of the carpet manufacturing industry. The magnificent mills that once worked 24 hours a day now stand as not only impressive monuments to the industrial revolution, but also give the town its distinctive and attractive appearance. Kidderminster also lies at the southern end of the Severn Valley Railway - the country's premier steam line - and if you haven't been on a steam train, this is a treat in store.
If you are looking for somewhere to live that has just the right blend of the rural and the urban, then you should take a look around Millfields - it strikes the perfect balance.
