Word On The Street: Poole
My parents moved to Poole eight years ago and my brother followed three years later…

I have been trying to move my family down there for years.  At last now we have decided the time is right for our family and we are so excited.

The villages are clean with friendly people, the schools are excellent and the lifestyle is one we are looking forward to taking having spent all our lies in London.

We ideally want to be situated near Upton as it is near to most local amenities. Country Park, Hamworthy beach and the hustle of Poole town centre with its fantastic shops!

Can't wait!

Poole is gorgeous and great for people of all ages and backgrounds...

There's a little bit of everything for everyone. I've lived here for 20 years (all my life) and I couldn't ask for a more beautiful, friendly and fun place to have been bought up.

It's a beautiful place to live & work...

Tthere is so much to do especially in the Summer with free outdoor events happening every day of the week. We have the beach, heathlands, parks & can even travel to France cheaply. Having lived here most of my life, I never want to leave!

I've lived in Poole for 8 years...

It has beautiful beaches and a great Arts Centre. It is also easy to get to the shops and theatres in Bournemouth.

I've lived in Poole all of my life...

Fifty three years...and as our slogan says: "Its A Beautiful Place."

Poole is a great place to live - I can vouch for that after 40 years here....

The best beaches, countryside and shops are all within easy reach. Employment is varied and covers many different aspects. Opportunities for youngsters are good with excellent colleges and a University nearby. Adult Education is well catered for.

Travelling to other parts of the country is very easy with good train and bus links and it is possible to travel to France for the day from Poole to Cherbourg direct in about 4.5 hours!

The town of Poole itself has most of the large high street shops such as M & S, BHS, Dorothy Perkins, Woolworths, C & A, Beales, Evans and there is a large indoor shopping centre, The Dolphin Centre, which has many smaller shops.

Poole is primarily a tourist area although unlike its neighbour Bournemouth has retained its local charm, owing to the fact that there are very few large hotels. These can all be found in Bournemouth just a few miles away.

The harbour is the 2nd largest natural harbour in the world (after Sydney) and the Quay is a delight and is home to the world famous Poole Pottery. Trips around the harbour and to Brownsea Island (a beautiful island owned by the National Trust) leave the quay several times daily.

The blue flag beaches are very close and so are the outstanding Purbeck Hills. As the tourism slogan says: 'Poole is a beautiful place'

A large town based around an old port...

Poole harbour itself is the second largest natural harbour in the world. The town shares a common border with Bournemouth, and with Christchurch included, merges into one large conurbation.

The old town and quay area has been conserved in the main and is reminiscent of any 'olde-world' fishing port found elsewhere in the UK.
