I have lived here in Southway for nearly 20 years now and it's a lovely place to live…
…Close by schools / a lovely little shopping centre close by too and regular bus service to city centre and other places!
Great for families. It's only a 10 minute drive from Dartmoor, which is a beautiful place.

I moved to Plymouth in 2000…
...I left and moved to Spain, all I can say is that if personal circumstances were different, I would be back to Plymouth like a shot! Keyham is a lovely place to live… The grass is not greener on the other side! Enjoy.

Huge regeneration happening in recent years and ongoing ...
... Increasing standard of living, amenities, cafes, shops etc. Older listed buildings brought back to life through grants and substantial investment by developers, many super luxury.

Plymouth is great. I was born there and moved away in the services, but enjoy going back. It's improved a lot over the years.

I have lived in various places in England and would rate Plymouth highly...
The city is changing thanks to forward thinking plans adopted by the council. Some good new buildings: Local newspaper offices designed by Nicholas Grimshaw, Theatre Royal rehearsal rooms designed by Ian Ritchie & partners and Plymouth University CVA designed by Henning & Larsen, as well as award winning modern apartments near waterfront. Also, first class theatre (drama, ballet, opera etc.).

I would like to comment on living and working in Plymouth...
Plymouth offers a central position in which to enjoy life. It's the gateway to some of the best countryside available. Access to the National Parks (e.g. Dartmoor) is in one direction and in the other direction you find Cornwall, where you can enjoy and find yourself on some outstanding natural beaches.
The main city centre provides good access to shops and various entertaining venues. There is plenty of inward investment on offer: luxury flats, housing and onward expansion of the University. I'm a family man and it's a great place to bring up kids - lots to do and offer

Plymouth is actually a good place but is awful at the moment...
The council are especially rubbish and do not listen to anyone. The roads are potholed, cycle lanes are built with no one ever using them, dual carriageways have been narrowed, speed humps are ruining peoples cars and bus lanes are installed, usually empty, against the specific wishes of the electorate. Plymouth council are bullies.
If you are a local person wishing to buy a house you've got no chance. The rental sector in Plymouth is controlled by a handful of about 30 very rich people. Loads of important architecture has been bulldozed, especially by the university. Students have ruined the Mutley area, especially as the weak council have allowed pubs and clubs to set up unopposed so avoid Mutley at night unless you are one of the thick people who get drunk, fight, then vandalise and intimidate local residents.
Transport links (by rail, car and plane) to and from Plymouth are VERY bad so don't live here if you plan to travel a lot, you will find it very frustrating. Lots of villages in Devon and Cornwall are now essentially ghost towns as people from up country have bought holiday homes here. If you are looking to rent a decent family home in south Devon you won't find it! Be cautious about moving to Plymouth.
You have been warned! (Its not all bad, but......)

The plans for this city over the next ten years are exciting...
It really will be THE city to live in. I love living here; it has the best of everything... Pre-west end shows, restaurants, waterfront, scenery, Mooreland, shopping ... and much more... FANTASTIC

Recently moved to Plymouth...
It's nice, it's pretty, clean, and I've met some nice people. It's trying to go upmarket with the shopping centre etc, so give it a couple of years and maybe it'll be one of the places to be!!.

I have moved from Plymouth, to London, to Tokyo, but in the end came back home...
Plymouth is fab - although a lot of old school mates would disagree! It's warmer than other parts of England, has a good and varied night life and the choice of restaurants is good. You're 3.5 hours away from London by train, and the cost of living can be catered for all! City life by the sea and next to the country. Beat that!
