Hayle guidebook

Hayle is most famous for its three miles of golden sands…

Situated on the opposite side of the bay from St Ives, Hayle’s beaches start at the mouth of the estuary, which is regarded as an excellent bird-watching area, and includes spectacular seascapes and cliffs.

Hayle Towans provides a good family beach, slightly more protected from the Atlantic waves.

Gwithian beach, following along from Hayle Towans, is popular with surfers and hides the ruins of one of Cornwall’s oldest churches beneath its sand.

At the end of the sands, Godrevy lighthouse provides a stunning view out to sea while Gwithian village, just outside Hayle itself, is a pretty village with a lovely church and can be found on the coast road on the way from Hayle to Portreath.

As a shopping centre, Hayle has a number of family businesses and is divided into two main districts, Copperhouse and Foundry, both of which reflect the town’s industrial past.

Hayle is also home to many exotic birds at Paradise Park, a family attraction and interesting day out.
