St George

Originally built as a link between the floating harbour and upstream navigation to Bath. Today the riverbanks have been redeveloped to create clean and open space from Troopers Hill to the Lock, all ideal for watching traditional canal boats on the river and feeder canals.

St George is a small community just two miles east of the heart of Bristol. It benefits from its own park, which is currently being transformed with a £1.2 million pound pavilion, cricket and football pitches, and facilities for young children. Whether youre there to relax or heading for the old canal towpath, which is now part of Bristol's many cycle paths, there is plenty to see and do.

Within easy reach of the city, the development benefits from Bristols recent redevelopment schemes. The latest of which is the extension of the Broadmead Shopping Centre. This flagship development is being heralded as the most important since the Second World War, due for completion in 2008 it will see over one million square foot of new shopping space, this will include House of Fraser's newest Anchor store, Harvey Nichols, as well as cafes, bars and restaurants all seamlessly blended in this development at the heart of historic Bristol.

If High Street stores and boutiques are not your fare, then head to one of the many markets that Bristol offers. St Nicholas Market has been running since 1743 and offers historical architecture, a vast variety of different markets and an ideal place for an inquisitive stroll or some serious shopping.

A wealth of history surrounds the region and Bristol's floating dock is an integral part of Bristolian heritage. In recent years the harbour has become a vibrant tourist attraction led by multi-award winning attraction, Brunel's ss Great Britain. Recent large-scale redevelopment has converted disused warehouses to cultural centres, such as the Arnolfini art gallery and the Bristol Industrial Museum, while the harbour comprises of shops, trendy wine-bars and restaurants.

Completed in 1878 Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station, in the south east of Bristol, replaced that of Isambard Kingdom Brunel's original Tudor inspired building. An icon of Victorian stations and the world's oldest terminus, it currently houses the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum.

Within easy reach of town and country, rail connections excel with express services to London in approximately one hour forty-five minutes, while Virgin Cross Country serves the North, Midland and the South Coast. All departing from Bristol Temple Meads, which is just two and a half miles from Zenith. Road connections around Bristol are excellent, with easy access to the M5 and M4, and journey times of approximately half an hour to Bath and one and a half hours to Reading.
