Shopping, shopping and more shopping! ...

... I live in Southall and have friends from all over the country. Every single one of my Asian friends have been to Southall, mainly for shopping. It's the cheapest place to buy things, with so many shops and so much competition between them, everything is cheaper in Southall: jewellery, clothes, even day-to-day things like groceries from the cornershop. (Cornershops which, in comparison with cornershops in other parts of the country, are the cheapest anywhere.)

Which restaurant to eat in is one of the most difficult decisions to make as there are 100's of excellent restaurants that look fantastic. Also things like the new Gurudwara (Sikh temple), which is the biggest in Europe, makes it an area that stands out.

Visited Southall regularly in 5 years...

5 years back I was staying in Ilford. I used to come all the way from Ilford to Southall to get a feel at home (I am Indian).

Now I am back in UK & staying in Hounslow & almost every weekend I visit Southhall.
Any Indian stuff ( food, spices, snacks & movies) can be found here. Sometimes it looks like I am at Karol Bagh or Chandni Chock. GREAT PLACE. Lalit Parashar.

I was born and bred in Southall...

...(I'm white) and won't hear a bad word said about it. It's buzzy and energetic, and there are a great number of shops where you can buy beautiful clothes and fabrics, and an amazing array of fruits, vegetables, spices and household goods at incredibly low prices. People are genuinely friendly and chatty, and I have never felt unsafe here. There are some fabulous restaurants and takeaways, and not for nothing is the 'Shahi Nan' kebab world famous.

Living here is very cheap, considering how close you are to London. Why shell out £250k for a pokey flat in a seedy part of central London when you could buy a 3 bedroom house with a garden for less in Southall? The only drawbacks to living here are that traffic congestion and parking can be a problem. However, most of Southall is not more than a stone's throw from the Broadway, which is best explored on foot anyway!

I have lived in Southall since 1990...

...I have looked at and enjoyed the unique history and the wonderful multicultural flux of life in Southall...I am the author/artist of the large painting on permanent display at the Southall train station .....Ealing Council and Thames Trains wanted an art work to humanise the space after the dreadful train accident. The painting reflects my understanding and love for the place. I hope the honest painting may just tilt your decision in favour of Southall rather than its relatively expensive neighbourhood. Since I was born I have lived in Southall...

It has now become a central tourist attraction for the ethnic traveller (Indians and Somalis). The town itself has many features, including the newly built cinema on South Road.

It is an up and coming place, with a bright future ahead.

I lived in Southall for 4 years and I loved it....

I am white and was always in the minority as it is predominantly Asian but never felt uncomfortable, and found the Indian people and culture wonderful. Others who frowned on Southall didnt know what they were missing.
