Word on the Street: Burnt Oak

One of few places in North London where houses still affordable to those trying for the first rung of the property ladder. It's convenient for Northern Line Tube and trains from Mill Hill Broadway.

Not the most fashionable of places to live, but lots of Green Space and only 35 minutes from the West End. Also one of few places left with Butchers, Greengrocers and fishmongers in abundance still as well as weekend market...

Hampstead it ain't, but for busy bodies everything is on your door step.

It's extremely diverse and there are a lot of young professionals/couples moving into the area. On weekends the main shopping street has the vibrancy of a Morrocan souk. There's a great selection of restaurants and some proper old-style English pubs. Loads of green areas and children's facilities can be found in the parks. It's one of the few places in London where people will happily chat to you about life on the street.

Main shopping street is a bit ugly (though it did give birth to the Tesco empire!), but there are 3 attractive parks nearby and good routes to other shopping centres.

Burnt Oak to Bank (City) Station takes 45 minutes on the tube.

A good base camp, but there isn't much in the town itself. A new sport and leisure facility has just opened there.

Good connections to the West End via Northern Line, nightbus takes 20 minutes from Tottenham Court Road at 3am on Sunday morning. Despite its outwardly appearance Burnt Oak does have a community feel about it. Good place to buy if new to London and looking for starter home, prices are very reasonable.
