Having lived here for a few years I have nothing but praise for the area...
...Yes there are some rough and ready bits but these are rather isolated. There are some great parks around (ideal for long dog walks) and good restaurants.
Excellent transport links to London and this will get even better - 17 mins from Ebbsfleet to St Pancras from 2009.
House prices are not as high as surrounding areas but I think that this will change in the very near future.
Gravesend Council are also value for money, recycling bags and black bin bags delivered for free, clean streets and helpful staff etc.
Convinced… you should be.

I love Gravesend…
…I moved here from South East London four years ago and it's the best thing I ever did. Although it's a bit rough around the edges Gravesend is a really friendly place to live with a great multi cultural buzz.
What struck me when I moved here was just how many beautiful Victorian and Georgian houses there are, which are still great value for money despite price rises over the last four years.
2009 will see the start of a new fast commuter service from Gravesend station, effectively making central London a 20 minute journey and Paris from Ebbsfleet just 2 hours.
The historic town centre is also set to undergo a multi million pound regeneration. I think the area will out perform the market over the next few years and begin to attract young professionals and families from London looking for period housing stock, good transport links and a potential grammar school education for their kids.

I have lived in Gravesend for just over a year now, and it definitely has potential to become quite a desirable town…
…There's a great stock of Victorian buildings crying out for attention and investment. Harmer Street is one good example of this, where there are rows of empty shops in what should be a desirable street.
I am moving out of the area, but keeping my flat as an investment (to see what happens when the domestic service from Ebbsfleet to St. Pancras opens).
I am sure that Gravesend will defy the current predictions that property prices are going to start falling.

I have lived here all my life and Gravesend is a nice place to live. There are many beautiful properties near the town and the area is definitely currently undervalued ...
... I am sure once fast trains stop in the area it will become a very popular location. Not many people realise that from 2009 fast trains will be calling at Gravesend station (1 stop Stratford, 10 mins) and St Pancras will be only 20 minutes away.
This will make Canary wharf very easy to commute to and surely property prices within walking distance of Gravesend town centre will rise. A very good property investment! I bought several buy to let investments in the area a few years ago, which I think was very wise.

Fantastic commuter links, decent houses that are still undervalued ...
... loads of parks nearby (Shorne, Jenkyns, massive forestry commission park). Plus Bluewater, countryside, France 2hrs away, some fairly decent restaurants (Ghandi is recommended), river ferry and a fairly pleasant High Street.

I bought an investment flat in Gravesend last year and it is one of the best things I have spent my money on! ...
... The property prices are a fraction of what they are compared to other areas in Greater London. Kent is massively undervalued compared to Hertfordshire and Surrey yet with the new train link set to open in Ebbsfleet, it will be so easy for commuters to get into London.
Unlike many other areas, rental income covers your mortgage and some more. Fully recommend other people live in Gravesend and to invest in buy to lets!

I moved to Gravesend four years ago, mainly because of the schools...
I live on Pelham road and find this part of Gravesend delightful. Property prices are soaring and although Gravesend currently isn't particularly attractive, it is potentially a hot spot for people looking to maximise their returns in property and good size period homes.

I moved to the Windmill Hill area from Balham, looking for looking for a quality of life unaffordable in London ...
... The town centre is showing signs of investment and development, attracting young professionals from London, with the new fast link train from Ebbsfleet offering riverside living and easy access to France on Eurostar from 2007.

I haved lived in Gravesend for four years and work in Central London...
The area is good, easy access to parks, good standard of housing. My only gripe about the area is now that the trains are running on time with a brilliant service the council have gotten rid of hundreds of car parking spaces to make way for houses.

I have lived in Gravesend all my life, I am 19 now...
It is a nice town with lots of different pubs to go too, a reasonable night life and is close to Bluewater if the shops in town are not to your taste. The only main problem is the youth - same as anywhere. It is not advisable to go out in to the town between 11pm and 2am on a Friday or Saturday. Other then this it is a nice town to live in.

Just bought a flat in Gravesend...
It's got a good riverview. There are some good resturants in the town centre. It's fast becoming a Cosmopolitan town.

I have just moved to the Echo Square area of Gravesend, close to Windmill Hill...
Gravesend is full of historic houses, has a world heritage site along the wharf and in 2007 the Ebbsfleet station opens (30 minutes to St Pancras). The prices are sure to rise. I think canny professionals will start to cotton-on soon and Gravensend/Northfleet will be transformed. Oh - my wife loves shopping at Bluewater as well. And the countryside just south is spectacular and unspoilt.

I have lived in Gravesend for 3 years in Windmill Hill...
...which is a conservation area with a village feel and fantastic views. The town centre has a few good restaurants although most need updating. There`s a lot of potential to attract professionals into the area.

I have lived in Gravesend (Northfleet) for 2 years...
...not the prettiest place in Kent, but I think that it has potential to become quite a hotspot. Easy acccess to city, although I am now retired, so that doesn't mean so much to me now. I was rather taken aback by the sky-high bus fares. This is an exciting area to live at the moment and I expect even more so in future with the new channel links, new motorways and other transport improvements. Buying a house here could be quite an investment for the future, buy at today's prices and see the value grow.

I have lived in Gravesend for 13 years...
...I am now 20 and think it's a great place to live. There are 50 decent pubs I can name off the top of my head, 3 night clubs and the town is not too bad, it's got most things you would want.

I have lived in Gravesend for 31 years, and worked there from time to time...
It's very much a commuter town nowadays. The town centre offers a very limited shopping experience, however Bluewater is just 7 minutes away by train, and Lakeside is on the other side of the river (15 minute drive).
The night life in Gravesend is practically non-existent and there are a limited number of decent pubs. That aside, the links to the coast and to London are very good. A short hop to France is no problem and an hour to the West End of London is reasonable.
