The main one is location. It is an hour from London and the same distance from southern coastal resorts. Gatwick Airport is only half an hour away, but not so close that aircraft noise has become a problem.
The town has a long High Street, a string of beautiful half timbered houses by the River Eden, and Duncan Goodhew’s restaurant in a restored mill.
Property Market In Edenbridge
Property: Areas in Edenbridge are defined by the two railway lines which hold the least attractive part of town between them.
This area is defined by ex-council estates and light industry and is consequently cheaper than other areas of the town – although it should also be said that this area is steadily improving.
The more expensive parts of town are to the North and South. It is often said that Edenbridge is a tale of two towns, switching from urban blight to rural delight within one-and-a-half miles.
The Southern portion of town and the Hamlets of Marsh Green and Haxted are very popular. There are a number of attractive estates like The Ridgeway (1959) with large detached houses and long gardens which are also popular.
Buyers: The south-eastern portion of the town, towards Hever and the south-west end of town, towards Haxted, is the most desirable area of town.
Less popular is the northern flank of Edenbridge with its sprawling London overspill council estate called Spittals Cross, where unattractive modern architecture is matched by very affordable prices.
The villages surrounding Edenbridge are much more scenic than the town itself and accordingly more expensive. They have a number of fine timber-framed houses from the 16th century which are popular with families and commuters.
