The name Borough Green came from the area's original use, which was as the public green of the borough of Wrotham.
Development began in 1586 with the opening of the Red Lion Inn as the Gravesend to Hastings stagecoach route crossed the area.

Property: The Fairfield Road area has a variety of more affordable property from the 1950s and building has continued up until 1985 when Ightham council put a limit on the village boundaries to protect some of the agricultural areas.
There are some pretty period properties but the town is predominately post war. There's a large stock of semi-detached housing and terraces as well as some modern 2-4 bedroom housing. Property is very affordable for this area.
Buyers: There is some movement in the village with many residents having lived in the area for some time. Typically those moving into the village are looking for affordable property within an hour of London.

Shopping: Borough Green is well served with a couple of banks, supermarkets, butcher, estate agents and a variety of other shops. Everything one could need in a good sized village.
Clubs & Amenities: Borough Green has a football, cricket and Tennis clubs. A shooting party, British Legion, Bowls and Badminton. There is also a recreation ground in the centre of the village opposite the Village Hall.
Train: Journey times are 55 minutes to London Charing Cross with most property being within walking distance.
Road: The village is situated on the A25 road between Maidstone and Sevenoaks with easy links to the M25. There has been much call for a bypass in recent years owing to the increasing weight of traffic.
