I love living in an area which has beautiful open countryside on your doorstep…
…Tranquil surroundings (no motorway noise), plentiful amenities, lido, ski school, go-karting etc.
A wide variety of late night eateries, some interesting architecture music and art venues, easy parking and great parks and nature reserves.

Despite the fact that there’s not much army left here now the area still hangs onto its image of being rather rough, but as a place to live it has many attractions ...
... There is a main train line to London, Guildford is a short drive away and it’s easy to find lots of lovely gastro-pubs out this way either in Hampshire or Surrey.
The main point for me is that you can have a lovely house in a very pleasant area for far less than in the more trendy places such as Farnham or Guildford. I like it here!

Watch out for Aldershot - I am convinced that it will come of age.
I grew up in Aldershot. I now live in Sydney Australia. I returned last year after an absence of 10 years. I agree that it has considerable potential. Full of history and surrounded by beautiful countryside. The shopping center needs a considerable injection of funds to bring it up to scratch. Watch out for Aldershot-I am convinced that it will come of age.

Still a little rough around the edges, but there are tangible improvements around the place ...
... and much of the red tape holding up major developments is well and truly cut!

Aldershot is a secret waiting to come out, and when it does! ...
... Bowling, swimming, lido, shopping and parking spaces! New health centre investment, great schools, loads of building and investment -very telling - and easy access to London, all on our doorstep. Sshh!

Much improved over the last few years...
Gentrification of victorian housing stock - some very nice areas on outskirts. Good train link to Waterloo.

An up and coming town with a forward thinking council...
The Government are investing a £1.2 billon in the town over the next 30 years. A 21st century leisure complex will begin in Wellington Avenue in 2002.
As they say, look for signs of property being refurbished and developed plus the major chains of shops and bars coming in to the town and you probably have the next area to grow (outside Guildford and Farnham - which have become too expensive).

Close to town, can be noisy like most towns...
Shopping is great, there are a variety of shops and if you need a wider choice, Woking, Guildford or Camberley are only 20 minutes away. Also close to M3 & A3 for London or Portsmouth or catch a train that will take you straight to Waterloo.
Aldershot is always put down, probably because of the army, but I have lived here for 21 years and the army are not a problem. I would rather live here than in Guildford or Woking where there is so much traffic you can't get anywhere. Aldershot town has and is still being done up, you can park in Aldershot car parks from 20p for 2-3 hours, which is much lower than other towns.
More and more people are moving to Aldershot as they cannot afford house prices nearer London. This is making Aldershot prices go up and making Aldershot a more popular place.

A very low crime rate....
Lots of open country side. Only 40 mins by train from London. 40 mins. by car to Heathrow and 50 mins to Gatwick.
