Mayfield guidebook

Situated just to the South of Tunbridge Well, the village of Mayfield is surrounded by some beautiful countryside...

With its large houses and pleasant ‘garden of England' feel the village is one that many commuters aspire to.

Mayfield began as part of the ancient Malling Estate with the central Manor house located just outside Lewes. The local church is named after St Dunstan, who, among other things, saw off the Devil by grabbing his nose with a hot pincers.

Despite a history including smuggling, Mayfield has been rather sedate over the years and remains so today.

There are some local shops, but for more you'll have to venture to Tunbridge Wells. Mayfield is also home to St Leonards-Mayfield, a Roman Catholic boarding and day school educating girls aged 11-18.
