... very convenient for London and very close to all the major motorways. Iver is slowly losing it's village feel by the constant increase in large trucks using the high street as a short cut.

Successive councils promise to reduce this disruption to the peaceful atmosphere but it get worse year by year, made worse by the expansion of The Ridgeway Trading estate.

It has some good takeaways and a couple of descent pubs, but really does need a good reasonably priced restaurant.

Word On The Street: Iver Heath

... Except for 2 years in the RAF, I lived there until 1963 before moving to Iver Village where I lived at 2B The Leas, High St. Iver. Two years later, in 1965 I emigrated to Canada/USA. Back then, my parents bought the house for 1,100 GBP. Right before moving in, I can remember riding my bicycle out to Iver Heath just to look at "our new house" and to smell the country air and listen to the birds singing after a Summer evening shower.

To me, it was heaven on earth. In the early mornings, we would wake to the cockerels heralding the day. We were really in the country, there were few cars in those days compared to today. So the street was clear not cluttered with cars jammed in at all kinds of crazy angles half on and half off the pavement. I spent many happy days growing up in this part of the country.

When I'm back from the USA from time to time, I always make a point to visit.

It was our first and only venture on living outside of California and we had a wonderful time. I remember best the wonderful antique shop owner and his wife. I believe his name was Peter. I also remember a lovely older woman who was a healer, who lived a couple of blocks away. I remember her quite fondly and also remember that her husband was the son of a very famous artist.

Also, the garden center on Bangors Road (which is the street we lived on). My three daughters still speak of the wonderful times they had there. Quite an experience for three young girls from California.

...and have found that now as my family want to move I realise how much this humble and pleasant village means to me. Charming, convenient and a wonderful place to bring your family.

It is a friendly village located far enough from Uxbridge and Slough town but not too far with bus routes to both. A range of people make up the village population old, young, rich, not so rich, black, white, Asian.

The First school is excellent and Middle school not bad, however the village teens have to travel to Chalfont for secondary school education. However there are a number of other schools in surrounding areas such as Langley wood, but transport is not available.

Iver village has a number of shops chemist, new health centre, loads of pubs, churches, social club, recreation ground, Little Britain lake. It's a nice place to live.
