... Great little village in a great location and lovely community. Cannot honestly see us moving ever again.

20 mins to Paddington, near the M4, M25, M40. On the doorstep of beautiful countryside etc etc.

Property is still cheap too, and there are some lovely places to live. Prices are rising quickly however, especially around Upton Park, where large Victorian Mansions have been converted into flats.

Beautiful countryside on your doorstep, nice places like Windsor and easy access back into London. Fantastic shopping at Reading (which is twenty minutes up the M4). All at a fraction of London prices - who needs the rip-off property prices of London when you can live here so much cheaper?

Those of you struggling to get on the property ladder in London - get yourselves here!

Lots to do, places to see are brill. Don't knock Slough unless you have lived here.

...for London, Reading, Windsor, Beaconsfield, Henley, Maidenhead, M4, M25, M40 - & a good train network means you can get anywhere easily and it's surrounded by lovely places to go day or night... Plus, with the Trading Estate, there will always be someone wanting to buy your house!

It's fifteen minutes from London and a fraction of the price to live here, property wise.

There are plenty of OAPs that find living here very convenient because they do not rely on others to help them get to the shops. Also, Upton Park is very close for children.

However, it is about time that Slough Council used the money from the residents taxes and the influx of funds from the new "parking watch" scheme to improve the shopping centre like Reading have and Maidenhead are at present.

I got the impression from a Herschel Village meeting regarding the new parking scheme that decision makers at the council don't even live in the area. How can they decide what is best for the residents when all they see are the four walls of their offices. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

This town has everything that an individual needs for a comfortable and easy life, nothing is too far, everything is accessible - more so than some towns I have been to and found, amazingly, that they have no safe parks to walk your dog in, only 1 supermarket and a town centre with only a handful of shops.

Slough has so much to offer, and is being developed to offer so much more.

I am the first one to put my hand up and admit some areas aren't as pleasant as others, but EVERY town and city has their dodgy parts.

Employment is not a problem, crime is however - I don't know how controversial this is - but even our criminals have jobs! So a big finger up to all those who want separation from SL - mainly from Windsor and Maidenhead - who flock to Slugh for all the retail parks when the Christmas sales are on! Sharon

There are so many opportunites for employment and education and the shopping centres are excellent. Also the transport links enable you to go into London easily as well as to the west into Bristol and Oxford. Slough is a place where unemployment is never really felt and it is very easy-going residential place to live in.

...it is a vibrant, multicultural and forward looking town. The long overdue "Heart of Slough" development will simply reflect what Slough people have known all along.

Slough contrasts well with Windsor, which is only five minutes away. Windsor represents the past and Slough the future.

John Betjeman put his thoughts to pen ("come friendly bombs, and fall on Slough..."), and that's fine, but it's in the past - and that's where his words should be consigned to.

...the leafy lanes of Berkshire. You are never more than a short bike ride from the farms and fields of Buckinghamshire to the North or the playing fields of Eton, and the Thames to the south. Excellent transport links, however, have worked against this economically booming town, to present a serious congestion problem.

Word on the Street: Slough

I find the area an ideal location to get to some of the best places in the country, 1/2 hour from London, 10 minutes to Marlow, Windsor, Cookham.

Some parts are not particular wholesome but on the whole there are some good areas around.
