Harrison Lavers & Potbury’s
The partnership of Harrison-Lavers & Potbury’s was formed in 1978 between Edmund Harrison FRICS and Michael Lavers FNAEA.
Michael is a native of Sidmouth and has been involved in residential estate agency in the town and surrounding area for more than 35 years. He is a Fellow of the National Association of Estate Agents.
As the firm has grown so has the scope of its work and today the company, now known as Harrison-Lavers & Potbury's following the acquisition of the estate agency and the property management arm of Potbury's in 1985, is involved in a wide range of property services. Although primarily known for residential agency, the firm is very active in the sale and letting of commercial property, survey and valuation work and residential property management, together with the full range of professional services expected from Chartered Surveyors and is the only firm based in the town to offer such a comprehensive range of property services.
In January 2001 the partnership was enlarged to include Jay Thorne and David Crooks. Jay, who was born and educated in the Sidmouth area, had already been with the firm since 1989 and is a Fellow Member of the National Association of Estate Agents. David is a Chartered Surveyor and was previously a partner of a large Midlands based firm, although he has had connections with Sidmouth for many years. In January 2003 Harrison-Lavers & Potbury's became a Limited Company.
In 2003 the company was strengthened when the Directors were joined by Malcolm Williams FRICS, a well known Chartered Surveyor in East Devon having been in practice in the area for over 30 years. Malcolm is the retained agent for Clinton Devon Estates, one of the largest landed estates within the South West of England and also acts for a significant number of major clients throughout the area.
In 2004 Ed Harrison retired and David Crooks and Malcolm Williams are now responsible for the Professional Department with David principally dealing with residential matters. Detailed residential surveys, RICS homebuyers surveys, Energy Performance Certificates and valuation reports are available at competitive rates and all reports include digital photographs.
In 2009 Spencer Jarrett became a Director of Harrison-Lavers & Potbury's and the firm was invited to join the Guild of Professional Estate Agents.
Malcolm deals with commercial properties, to include both general and professional advice, lettings acquisitions, sales and rent reviews.
Property management is administered under the name of HILLSDON MANAGEMENT and includes full management of a portfolio of approximately 1000 properties in Sidmouth and East Devon, West Dorset and Somerset areas.
Bobby Marshall is the Lettings Manager and together with Nettie Giles operates a very active residential letting department and a management services are available for those clients who do not wish or are not able to manage their properties themselves.
The company is a member of ARLA, ARMA and is a firm Regulated by the RICS.
