A Common Vision For the Future
The founders of Blue Property have united around a common vision: to develop zero-carbon, energy self-sufficient homes that people want to live in.
Our goal is to develop homes and communities that:
- Generate 100% of the energy they use from renewable sources - tapping into the sun, wind, water and heat in the earth
- Are highly energy efficient to reduce the energy needed to manageable levels
- Are genuinely places that people want to live - we are committed to great design and don’t believe that to save the planet we all have to wear hair shirts!
- Contribute to affordable homes by reducing running costs with near-zero energy bills
- Are built to last - we are trying to think in terms of our impact over 100+ years
- Release the lowest reasonable level of CO2 to the environment during their construction and (where possible) act as long-term carbon sinks - for instance through the use of wood that locks up CO2 long-term
- Reduce the climate change impact of transport related to housing by supporting low or zero-carbon public and private transport - e.g. integrating plug-in charging of the new generation of electric cars, with the electricity generated renewably on-site
We believe that well-designed housing developments can be fabulous places to live that don’t damage the planetary or the local environment.
Why are we motivated to do this?
As a group of individuals we are highly aware that climate change is a very serious issue. Here in Scotland, as around the world, we are faced with the prospect of devastating river and coastal flooding, possible sea-level rises of many metres, greater weather extremes, changing natural habitat (affecting wildlife and farming) and changing local climate (wetter and warmer, unless the Gulf Stream switches off, in which case very much colder).
It would be easy to quail at the prospect and imagine that the problem is too big for anyone to deal with. Nevertheless, we believe it is everyone’s (and therefore our) personal responsibility to do everything we can to avert global warming.
What the founders of Blue Property can do is apply our technical and business skills to, over the years, develop thousands of homes that are part of the solution not part of the problem. To do this we must partner with and ask for the help of local authorities to assist us with enacting these solutions.
