Word On The Street: Luton
We moved to Luton from Lincolnshire eighteen months ago, and felt at home immediately…

…It has a super cosmopolitan flavour, the people are friendly and it's accessible from all over the UK by car, rail and air, and is only two hours from Dover for the ferry.

For leisure and entertainment, Luton has all you need, plus London on the doorstep.

Property prices are the cheapest in the area and it's warmer than up north!

The only down side is that there is no street market so we usually go to neighbouring towns for shopping, which is a pity because the pedestrianised area in front of the Arndale would make a brilliant market and we'd rather shop locally.

I fear that Woolies and Poundstretcher closing will also be detrimental to the town.

Luton is definitely the place for us.

WOW, what a lovely place!..

I moved to Luton in March 2005 from London and it was the best move I have ever made.

People are friendly and nice, and you can buy a decent house here for a fraction of the price you would pay in London; and we just border Hertfordshire where house prices are also crazy.

We have great links nationally and internationally as well with Kings Cross International - I can take the train to Paris for the day if I feel like it !

Whoever said Luton was the worst place in the UK was totally wrong... have another think, hmmm!

Luton is a much maligned town, the residents are some of the friendliest in England ...

... Luton is nestled in between the Chilterns, Dunstable Downs and Warden Hills. The house prices used to be very reasonable but have risen by over 100% in the last three years. A fantastic location, it has three Railway Stations and is only a 20 minute journey into Kings Cross by the fast train.

It is one of the fastest growing towns in the East of England and, contrary to what you read in the press, its residents are quite prosperous. It has a 33% ethnic minority population and the famous Luton Airport. 186,000 people can not be wrong. The nearest town to us is Harpenden, Hertfordshire, only six miles away.

Where else can you get a five bed mansion with a hundred foot, garden 20 minutes from London for below £500,000?

A multicultural, tolerant, thriving community ...

... Some obvious no go areas - so don't go there. Restaurants open till 5am (beat that London). Commute to London is good unless you're driving near the M25 after 8.00am. Some small town attitudes and small-mindedness, but overall a peaceful town and a pleasant experience.

In the next 5 years those who were thinking of buying in Luton and did not will be kicking themselves ...

... It really is on the up and up. A lovely place to live where people still say thank you to the bus driver as they depart!

Luton is a great place to find a job and make a living

... Easy access to everywhere, great connections. The downsides are that it's not that beautiful, it could do with some investment in cleaning and some more nice public areas for families!

Word On The Street: Luton
Having spent many years living in Reading, Watford and Bristol I can say Luton is a fine place, no worse than any of the above ...

... It has excellent travel connections and a good community spirit - a good reason for me and my family to settle here.

Luton is an alright place to live ...

... I've been here all my life and there's plenty to do and see. Commuting is very easy as well, either by train or airport and the buses are not too bad. It's got everything for everyone's needs!

Word On The Street: Luton
Luton is a great city to live in. It is one of the fastest growing places in the country today ...

... Over a hundred languages are spoken in the town. Bushmead is truly one of the most beautiful parts of Luton, the houses there are nestled at the foot of the Bradgers and Warden Hills - the sight of the countryside that one awakes to in the mornings is breathtaking.

The good value for money (property) brought me to the town, but the natural beauty and the great community spirit has won my heart. Luton may not be as pretty as Harpenden but at these current growth levels, Harpenden (in the next 15 years) will become a suburb of Luton just as reluctant Dunstable is about to become.

A great city, a wonderful place to live, a much insulted place but all the better for it. I am proud to live in Luton and, given the option, would live nowhere else. In the last ten years this town has come a long way.

It is definitely going places too. Six years ago the houses on the old Bedford Road struggled to sell at £250,000; today if you do not have at least £500,000 you cannot afford to buy a three bed on that road. Go Luton go!

I have been here for three years and I am quite settled and happy ...

... I love the fact that Europe and most places are easily accessible from Luton. There are some really beautiful houses and there is wide open countryside nearby.

I am on this site because now I am buying in Luton; I have settled and I am satisfied with the intimacy of Luton.

I live in Luton - a very up and coming town...

People are very warm and friendly. I live in the Wigmore Area and it's not as built up as you may think. Just 2 minutes walk and you can be in gorgeous countryside for miles around, plus it's very easy to commute to London.

A wonderful, much maligned, town...

The housese are excellent value. An Edwardian mansion for the price of a two bed flat in London.

London is only 26 minutes from Luton. Check out the old Bedford road - excellent value for money.

Word on the Street: Luton
Very well connected to all the places in the country by 2 trains stations and an Airport. House Prices are affordable being close to London which is only 35 Min by train.
