Goscote Hall was built in 1841 by Benjamin Payne, Local Politician & newspaper owner. Was later sold, and purchased in 1874 by John Coupland. Shipping magnate. He rebuilt the hall and re-landscaped the gardens. The last owner for over 30 years was Thomas Fielding Johnson. Industrialist and Philanthropist. The hall was sold in 1933 when it was converted into a hotel.
